Apa itu present continuous tense?

Present continuous tense adalah kalimat yang digunakan untuk mengatakan peristiwa yang sedang dilakukan di saat ini. Kalimat present continuous tense dibuat menggunakan “be” dan present participle. Present participle adalah kata kerja bentuk pertama yang diberikan akhiran “-ing” atau “Verb + ing”. Berikut adalah beberapa contoh present participle:

Go ⇒ going

Write ⇒ writing

Read ⇒ reading

Eat ⇒ eating

Type ⇒ typing

Walk ⇒ walking

Take ⇒ taking

Wear ⇒ wearing

Color ⇒ coloring

Repair ⇒ repairing

Ada beberapa hal yang perlu diperhatikan ketika menambahkan akhiran “-ing” pada kata kerja seperti:

Kata kerja yang diakhiri huruf “e” harus dihilangkan. Lalu, ditambah dengan akhiran “-ing”.

Choose ⇒ choosing

Kata kerja yang diakhiri huruf “ie” diganti menjadi “y”.

tie ⇒ tying

Jika urutan huruf kata kerja dari belakang adalah konsonan-vokal-konsonan, maka huruf terakhir dibuat ganda. Aturan ini tidak berlaku untuk kata kerja yang huruf terakhirnya “w”, “x”, atau “y”.

Pola Kalimat Present Continuous Tense

Bagaimana cara membuat kalimat present continuous tense? Ada tiga bentuk kalimat yang perlu kalian ketahui: kalimat positif, negatif, dan interogatif. Untuk menulis kalimat present continuous tense, kalian bisa mengikuti rumus atau pola kalimat berikut ini.

1. Kalimat Positif (Affirmative)

Ikuti rumus kalimat present continuous tense di bawah ini untuk membuat kalimat positif:

Subject + is/am/are + verb ing

Subject	Be	Verb -ing	Contoh kalimat present continuous tense
I	am	walking	I am walking the dog.
He She It	is	cleaning	He is cleaning the room. She is cleaning the room. It is cleaning its wings.
We You They	are	talking	We are talking on our phones. You are talking on your phone. They are talking on their phones.

Kita bisa menyingkat subjek dengan be dengan menambahkan tanda petik tunggal. Perhatikan contoh di bawah ini:

2. Kalimat Negatif (Negative)

Untuk membuat kalimat negatif, kita bisa menambahkan kata “not” setelah “be”. Berikut adalah rumus kalimat negatif dalam present continuous tense:

Subject + is/am/are + not + verb -ing

3. Kalimat Tanya (Interrogative)

Untuk membuat kalimat tanya pada present continuous tense, kita tinggal mengubah letak subjek dengan “be”. Perhatikan rumus kalimat present continuous tense berikut ini:

Be + subject + verb -ing + ?

Be	Subject	Verb -ing	Contoh kalimat present continuous
Am	I	walking	Am I walking the dog?
Is	he she it	going	Is he going to school? Is she going to school? Is it going outside?
Are	we you they	eating	Are we eating the dinner? Are you eating the dinner? Are they eating the dinner?
